It has been revealed that ATP are continuing their partnership for the O2 Arena in London to host the ATP World Tour finals until 2015, after a two year contract extension was signed.
Rio de Janeiro attempted to win the deal but couldn’t covince the ATP, with London being close to Paris falling into the O2 Arena’s favour. The week prior to the Tour Finals is traditionally the Paris Masters and transporting players to London from Paris is obviously far easier than going to Brazil. Also, Brazil are already hosting the next World Cup and Olympic Games!
Also, Rio de Janiero has been strongly advertised around the courts of the 2012 event and over the ATP’s website. Their slogan was ‘Brazil’s Trademark’.
London has hosted the prestigous event since 2009, Nikolay Davydenko surprisingly won the 2009 event and Roger Federer took both the 2010 and 2011 titles.
