World number one Novak Djokovic has been defeated at just the second round at this year’s Paris Masters. American Sam Querry beat the Serb 0-6 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 today.
Djokovic amazingly won the first set without dropping a single game. Querry seemed to wake up after that and edged the second set on a tie-break. In the deciding set the world number 23 took a crucial break which went on to help him progress to the third round. This defeat leaves Andy Murray as the highest ranked player still competing in the event.
This leaves this year’s Austrailian Open champion with five days to prepare for next week’s all important ATP World Tour Finals at the O2 Arena in London. He is guaranteed to end the year as ATP’s world number 1 but he’ll be desperately hoping for victory in London, where he has only one the tour finals once.
